Griesser, a model for production and environmental protection

As a model for solar shading in Europe, the family-based company Griesser relies on production that is in harmony with sustainable development and respect of the environment.

In the field of surface treatment, this is authenticated by the use of atmospheric plasma technology. Aluminum strips are cleaned with this technology without chemical products and with little water for paint.

A stable and prosperous company like Griesser always endeavors to optimize their production. The environmental aspect might be profitable, but it is also clearly the priority. Therefore, the company spared no effort or expense in 2007. Five million Swiss francs were invested in research and a new coating system for weather-resistant aluminum rolling shutters and Venetian blinds. Aluminum required a completely clean surface to ensure good wettability and a perfect paint finish. Through plasma technology, Griesser and Plasmatreat, a system developer, successfully implemented a cleaning process in the Coil Coating industry for the first time.

For production, cleaning with plasma rather than chemical products has undeniable advantages. The 60-meter cleaning line that would normally be required is reduced to 2 x 1.5 meters. Production speed goes from 10 m/min to 40 m/min, which is beneficial for an ever increasing demand. In addition, Griesser has created exemplary working conditions with their new plant and safeguards the health of their employees. The advantages of the new cleaning process for the protection of the environment are also obvious. Unlike wet chemical cleaning, it does not produce several tons of hazardous waste every year. Water consumption is also considerably reduced. Considering the rarefaction of our planet’s resources, this is a positive change.

Cutting edge technology and sustainable environmental protection are definitely compatible. The implementation of such changes requires deep commitment and much conviction on the subject. Although the choice is not always simple and can be costly, it is really worth the while. Griesser is proud to follow this path and is very conscious of their role as an example.
